Father Gabriel is becoming loyal to Rick Grimes on The Walking Dead

Father Gabriel didn’t always trust Rick Grimes on The Walking Dead, but he is learning to accept that he needs the guidance and leadership to survive.
Father Gabriel has come a long way since his introduction in episode 2 of season 5 of AMC’s The Walking Dead. The cowardly and selfish individual has learned a lot about what it takes to survive and how to be part of a team in the zombie apocalypse.
There were plenty of bumps along the way. His betrayal of Rick to Deanna in Alexandria is probably the most notable, but each of those missteps has moved him closer to being more of what the group needs.
Seth Gillam, the actor who plays Father Gabriel, recently spoke at the Fan2Sea Comic Con Cruise about his character’s devotion to the people who helped him get where he is today. Hollywood Life was on hand to recount the discussion:
"“You’ll see more of his complete devotion to rehabilitating Rick and following his leader,” Seth told the crowd."

We’ve seen parts of that transformation already. Gabriel has been working hard to overcome his fear of the undead and understand that he needs to adapt to the world around him. Sadly, earning the trust of Rick was something that took some time.
The scene with Rick tearing the posters for the church down out of anger and frustration for Gabriel was rough, but it also helped to let him know where he stood in the group. But Gabriel’s devotion to the church is something Gilliam would like to see explored a bit more on the show.
"“I would be interested in what his newfound revelations are about what God’s plan is for man now that the dead are roaming the earth.”"

Father Gabriel and the rest of the wonderful cast of The Walking Dead will return for the second half of season 7 on Sunday, February 12, 2016. It will be interesting to see what is next for Seth Gilliam’s character going forward on the hit AMC zombie survival drama.
