The Walking Dead: Who died in episode 7.09 Rock in the Road?
It was great to get the band back together in episode 7.09 of The Walking Dead. ‘Rock in the Road’ had its share of dicey moments. Did we lose anyone along the way?
New walkers, old road
Talking Dead confirmed that the stretch of highway used in tonight’s episode was the same one used when Sophia went missing in season 2.Both scenes involve a scary herd of walkers, some very tense moments, and close encounters with the undead.
Rick’s group finds a roadblock of cars planted with explosives for an oncoming herd of walkers. They know they can use this firepower in their fight against Negan. Rosita carefully disarms the threat and the group sets to work in gathering the explosives.
But time proves to be a threat as well. The herd comes dangerously close. Rick and Michonne stay behind to finish gathering the dynamite while the rest of the crew moves the cars back in place. Then Rick and Michonne mow down much of the herd while driving the two cars attached to the steel cable.
Finally, the lovebirds have to do some hand to hand combat with walkers as they barely make their way into the getaway vehicle. But in the end, Rick’s group fared far better than the walkers in this scene.
Rick loses to the King
Rick’s group visits the Kingdom and meets King Ezekiel. They reunite with Morgan who explains that he found Carol but that she did not choose to stay after the doctors at the Kingdom patched her up. Morgan chooses not to tell Rick that she is actually just outside the Kingdom.
Rick implores King Ezekiel to join the fight against Negan. But Ezekiel is not convinced that he should risk the lives of his people. He does agree, however, to provide “sanctuary” for Daryl (the good kind, unlike Negan’s place!).
The group leaves disappointed and Rick tells Daryl to do what he can to convince King Ezekiel to change his mind.
Where is Father Gabriel?
Wow, our survivors turn oh so quickly on Father Gabriel, assuming he has left of his own volition with their food supply. Of course, we suspect differently.
Upon close inspection, we see a passenger raise up in the seat next to Gabriel as he drives off. Creepy!
We know he was being watched and now it appears that he is actually being escorted out of Alexandria against his will.
Thankfully, Father Gabriel is becoming quite a quick thinker. He leaves his Bible behind raising suspicion. He also manages to scribble a note in the inventory log that says “BOAT”. Rick and the gang finally understand that he did not run out on them.
The group goes to the house boat where Rick and Aaron scavenged. They follow tracks until they are met with a large group that surrounds them. Do they have Gabriel? A smile grows on Rick’s face. Does he see this group as potential warriors in the fight against Negan? And, seriously, do they have Father Gabriel?

Thankfully, we did not lose any humans tonight. A whole bunch of walkers were taken out. And we do not know exactly where Father Gabriel is, but we are certainly holding out hope that he is alive.
We will reconvene next Sunday for The Walking Dead episode 7.10.
