By Adam Carlson
There were some high and low moments from The Walking Dead: A New Frontier Episode 3 – ‘Above The Law’, find out more in this playthrough and review.
It is absolutely no secret that Telltale Games consistently does a fantastic job of creating a new story during each season of their games based in the universe of The Walking Dead, and A New Frontier is no different.
The first two episodes set the bar extremely high. Both had massive plot twists and intense moments that blew the minds of many players. You can check those out in the recaps for Episode 1 and Episode 2.
Watch my playthrough of The Walking Dead: A New Frontier Episode 3 – ‘Above The Law’ as hosted on my YouTube channel. However, remember that this will be a continuation of the story, and it is highly recommended you be caught up to this point before watching:
As far as the Episode 3 of game itself, it was disappointing in some ways, while succeeding in others.

‘Above The Law’ did a great job of giving the players a lot to think about. It was an emotional tale dealing with family while trying to do what is best for the people being watched over. It also did a great job of being awkward, pushing the love triangle story even further.
What didn’t work in Episode 3 was the pacing and gameplay choices. While there were some decisions to be made and several button-pushing sequences, there wasn’t enough exploration or freedom to feel like the player was in the role of Javier or even Clementine at times. What was left was a straight-forward story that felt more like watching a game than playing one.
Still, the characters are as fresh as ever and Javier could be a welcomed long-term addition to the Telltale universe if he makes it out of A New Frontier alive.
Next: Clementine on AMC's TWD? It's not impossible.
As of this writing, this is no official release date for Episode 4 of The Walking Dead: A New Frontier. Titled ‘Thicker Than Water’, it should give more conflict to the family situation and maybe even the love triangle. Fingers crossed it is more interactive than Episode 3.
