Jeffrey Dean Morgan co-stars with Dwayne Johnson in Rampage, Midway’s Classic
By Nir Regev
Jeffrey Dean Morgan is reportedly joining ‘The Rock’ Dwayne Johnson in the upcoming game-to-film adaptation of Rampage! Midway’s arcade coin-op reborn.
According to Deadline, Jeffrey Dean Morgan will be playing Agent Russell of OGA, a ‘covert government organization’. Midway fans will remember smashing their way through city after city with the iconic ‘monsters’ George, Lizzie, and Ralph. One of the true satirical masterpieces of the 80s and 90s, it saw more than its share of quarters back in the day.
Though the series has taken quite a hiatus since Rampage: Total Destruction in 2006, the series is remembered fondly for its instant fun. In this film iteration, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is the only ‘hope’ of stopping the giant Gorilla (George), Lizard (Lizzie), and Werewolf (Ralph). That is, assuming the film stays true to its original gaming roots.

As you can see from the above gameplay video,
Rampage
was simple to play and fun at its purest form. Director Brad Peyton, who also directed Johnson’s 2015 film
San Andreas
and 2012’s
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island
will be leading up the adaption. Currently set for release on April 20, 2018,
Rampage
will feature a star studded cast along with Johnson and Morgan.
Rampage’s All Star Cast
The cast includes Pirates of the Caribbean/Moonlight star Naomie Harris (female lead), The Hunger Games’ Jack Quaid, Watchmen’s Malin Akerman, Sofia Vergara’s husband and True Blood star Joe Manganiello, Marley Shelton, Jack Lacy, Breanne Hill, and Matt Gerald.

Clearly, Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s work as Negan on The Walking Dead has caught more than a little of the attention of Hollywood and in this case New Line Cinema.
He’s guaranteeing roles for years to come with this Negan stint. It wasn’t that long ago legendary comedian Dave Chappelle parodies Negan on SNL, just think of the astronomical exposure!
Rampage’s Script: What We Know
Rampage’s script is being penned by Ryan Engle, with revision work by Ryan Condal Carlton Cuse, and Adam Sztykiel. Engle previously wrote the script for 2014’s Non-Stop starring Liam Neeson. A true modern classic, so he definitely has the skill set to pull off a winner.

Hopefully, the film stays true to Rampage’s comedic playful roots and doesn’t stray too much into serious territory.
