The Walking Dead season 8 trailer analysis: All Out War is here
By Sonya Iryna
Finally The Walking Dead season 8 trailer has arrived. Here’s the breakdown of what All Out War will look like and what else is coming in season 8.
There’s a lot to unpack in The Walking Dead season 8 trailer that clocks in at around 5 minutes long. It looks like season 8 will pick up just after the events of the season 7 finale. It’s clear from the clips in the beginning of the trailer that the communities are gearing up for All Out War against Negan and The Saviors.
In the opening clip Father Gabriel is being held prisoner by Negan in what looks like a shed or a shipping container. Hopefully that doesn’t mean that Father Gabriel isn’t going to make it through the first half of season 8. He’s really become an asset to the group after being a liability for a long time.
It looks like Daryl and some of the others are leading a massive herd of walkers towards The Sanctuary. If they’re planning an assault on The Sanctuary, which is likely, it’s smart to get as many walkers as possible headed that way. If The Saviors are busy fending off walkers the survivors can get inside The Sanctuary easily.

In one clip Dwight is reading a note. If he is really helping the survivors they are probably counting on him to help them get into The Sanctuary. If they can get fighters inside The Sanctuary without alerting any of The Saviors they will be in a great position to take Negan out directly.
Meanwhile At The Hilltop
It looks like preparations for battle are going on at The Hilltop too. Cars with corrugated metals panels on the outside are being driven into place around the perimeter, probably to bulk up The Hilltop’s defenses. In one clip Gregory is seen back at The Hilltop but it’s clear that Maggie is in charge now. Gregory is more than likely not going to make it past the first couple episodes of season 8.
Jesus and Morgan are seen sparring to get ready for battle. Rick, in one of his signature inspirational speeches, mentions Jesus and seems like he’s addressing the people of The Hilltop as well as Alexandria. Maggie also makes a speech. She is going to be a fierce leader for The Hilltop. It’s great to see her rise from her grief and channel it into taking action. Maybe Rosita should take notes.
The Kingdom
King Ezekiel and Shiva are getting The Kingdom fighters ready for battle too. The Kingdom soldiers, including Carol and Morgan, seem focused and ready to fight. It seems that Carol won’t go back to Alexandria but plans to stay at The Kingdom.
Warrior Carol is definitely back with a vengeance now. She’s wearing The Kingdom’s armor and toting some heavy artillery. Negan has no idea what he’s up against now that Carol is ready for war. All of The Saviors are going to be surprised by the challenges of fighting against a unified army of communities who are intent on taking them out for good.
The Armbands
It looks like Carol’s orange armband from the first photo that was released from The Walking Dead season 8 wasn’t just a fashion choice. All of the survivors are wearing armbands on their right arms when they go into battle. The Kingdom fighters are wearing orange armbands. The Hilltop troops are wearing green armbands. And the Alexandria team is wearing white armbands. In various clips throughout the trailer Maggie, Carol, Daryl, Tara and others can be seen wearing armbands in their community color. Carol’s orange armband is another sign she’s staying put at The Kingdom instead of going home to Alexandria.

Assault On The Sanctuary
It may take a few episodes to build up to the actual assault on The Sanctuary but the communities are definitely going to take the fight to Negan and The Saviors. And it doesn’t look like The Saviors are ready for that attack.
There isn’t much shown in the trailer about All Out War from Negan’s perspective. But Negan’s not stupid. He’s probably spending some time getting his Saviors ready for war just like Rick is getting his people ready for war.
Jadis, Tamiel and The Scavengers are shown briefly. Assuming that they are still going to be fighting for Negan they may not be the asset that Negan thinks they are. Once Rick’s army gets inside The Sanctuary Jadis and her people won’t be able to help The Saviors. But they might be able to help take care of the enormous herd of walkers that Rick and the others are leading to the gates of The Sanctuary.
Who Was Missing From The Trailer
There were a couple of noticeable absences in The Walking Dead season 8 trailer. Eugene was nowhere to be seen. Will Negan decide that Eugene isn’t a loyal Savior after all and kill him? Or will he lock him up for his role in helping Sasha commit suicide, ruining Negan’s big reveal at Alexandria?
Also missing from the trailer was Oceanside. It’s still a possibility that Oceanside will decide to join up with Rick’s army to take on The Saviors. Rick and the others could use help from the fierce women of Oceanside.

All Out War
The Walking Dead season 8 trailer showed that All Out War is going to exciting and action packed. One of the criticisms often hurled at the show last season was that it didn’t have enough action. It doesn’t look like that’s going to be a problem this season. All Our War is finally here and the survivors will be facing their toughest fight yet. But the payoff for getting rid of Negan and The Saviors will be worth the struggle. Let’s just hope Team Family doesn’t lose too many members in the battles that are coming.
