Since everyone is talking about The Walking Dead reference on the July 30 episode of Game of Thrones, should The Walking Dead return the favor?

When Tyrion Lannister told Jon Snow he’d take care of the “walking dead men” the Internet went nuts with excited fans who picked up on the subtle reference to the only other show that can compete for Game of Thrones’ ratings: The Walking Dead.

With season 8 of The Walking Dead set to premiere on October 22, there’s plenty of time to work in a little Game of Thrones reference somewhere. Given that the landscape on the show has changed so much with the rise of so many communities, which isn’t much different from the Seven Kingdoms on Game of Thrones. Perhaps that’s all the opportunity the writers need to slip in a little GoT reference.

The next step is to figure out where a little Game of Thrones reference might work in the story. I have to imagine that it would be Negan to make the reference. An offhand remark about the communities being “like a game of thrones” sounds exactly like something he’d say. I can even imagine a dialogue between Rick and Negan over who gets to be in charge of all of these communities where a line like that would fit organically.

I know that many members of the TWD Family are fans of Game of Thrones and it would be fun to see The Walking Dead return the favor with a little reference of their own. Sure, they may be completely different shows with very different stories, but there’s nothing that says they can’t have a little fun with each other, right?
