The Walking Dead #169 was the #9 selling comic in July
By Adam Carlson
The Walking Dead once again landed among the top selling comics for the month of July, with issue #169 ‘Lines We Cross’ earning the #9 spot.
Normally, it is exceptionally challenging for comic book publishers other than Marvel and D.C. to crack the top 10 comic books of the month. The two juggernauts control a majority of sales, with the smaller publishers, like IDW Publishing, Dark Horse, and Image (the publisher of The Walking Dead), fighting for positioning.
Thankfully, Robert Kirkman’s comic book franchise is a usual exception. His zombie series is one of the few exceptions to the Marvel and D.C. dominated market, and that trend continued in the month of July.
Here are the top-selling comic books for the month of July according to Bleeding Cool:
RANK | DESCRIPTION | PRICE | ITEM CODE | VENDOR |

9 | THE WALKING DEAD #169 (MR) | $2.99 | MAY170730 | IMA |
10 | SPIDER-MEN II #1 | $3.99 | MAY170813-M | MAR |
If not for titles like Dark Days: The Casting, Astonishing X-Men, and Deadpool Kills Marvel Universe Again being in their first issue, The Walking Dead would likely have been knocking on the door of the top 5 for July.
Titled ‘Lines We Cross’, this issue of the zombie drama series continued to deal with the fallout from the war against The Whisperers, the loss of a major character, and animosity growing between some members of the community.
Because of the intensity of some previous issues, it was no surprise to see fans flocking to purchase this installment of the series in order to find out what happened next in the intense storylines.

Odds are that The Walking Dead will continue to be the exception in a comics market dominated by the big two publishing giants. With a strong story and a loyal following, expect the undead drama series to once again be in the top 10 when August’s numbers are released.
