Alycia Debnam-Carey talks Fear the Walking Dead on BUILD Series NYC
By Nir Regev
Alycia Debnam-Carey was all smiles, as she discussed Fear the Walking Dead’s thrilling new season in a BUILD Series interview! Big questions were answered.
Alycia Debnam-Carey was over at the Big Apple ahead of Fear the Walking Dead’s Season 3 premiere, right at BUILD Series studios. Carey didn’t hold back, outside of spoilers, of course. Talking candidly about how she would love to see a feud between Alicia and Nick for control of the family and a leadership role, dually having the same name on the show and real life, and who she’d most like to see crossover from The Walking Dead.
Debnam-Carey, elaborated on the possibility of her own character end… How it would be most dramatic if it happened at Madison’s hands, the ultimate tragedy. Which drew many a gasp before she calmly soothed the audience. Telling her loyal NYC fans, ‘she didn’t mean it was necessarily going to happen guys, Alicia’s not going anywhere yet’. Crisis averted! Alycia also discussed her feelings toward potentially playing zombie Alicia and of course, the natural developing divide between all the characters on the show.
Alycia Debnam-Carey’s Q and A on BUILD Series
We got to be part of the experience as Alycia discussed questions Walking Dead fans have been aching to hear answers to for years.
UndeadWalking.com – Nir Regev:
How do you feel the experience of being apart of Fear the Walking Dead has changed you as an actress, and on a personal level? Since you have the same name in real life as in the show, does it effect you mentally to have people call you Alycia/Alicia all day, like you’re not getting off stage in some way?
Alycia Debnam-Carey: That’s a good question, surprisingly, not as much as I would have thought, to be honest. In my head, it is divided, which sounds crazy. *Alycia Smiles*. I realize as I said that out loud. It just felt different, she has a different accent, there’s a whole kind-of other side to that which completes the character. So for me, it is different but I will say when I first auditioned the character was actually called Ashley.
It wasn’t until I got to the read-through with the AMC execs and like the entire cast. Suddenly, I looked at the script and was like… Why does it say my name? *Laughs*. And they spelled it wrong! I do think it’s curious that they didn’t change it but it hasn’t bothered me too much. Actually, when we were filming in Mexico, in Spanish, Alicia is Aleethea (Phonetically spelled in Spanish accent), so it was kind of different anyway. Which kind of worked out well.
Next up, a heavy-hitting question fans have pondered since Fear The Walking Dead’s first episode!
If there was ever a character from The Walking Dead to crossover into Fear the Walking Dead… Who would you want to be teaming up with and bonding on the show?
Alycia Debnam-Carey: I’ve always said Maggie would be a good one. Just because I’d really like to see that girl power. I think that would be my crossover dream.
Alycia Debnam-Carey on the prospect of going full walker makeup: It’s fun to think about these things. I know a lot of people would want to be a zombie and walk around with that kind of makeup and blood. I’ve seen everyone just do it for a day and I’m like I do not want to be doing that! *Laughs*. I’d be sick of it, and in about ten seconds I think, I’d be like: “Okay, I’m done now, take it off”!
Fear of Thrones
Alycia touched on sibling relationships being fascinating because of the unspoken love between two people that grow up and experience everything together. Yet, don’t really talk about any of it. Always there but never to be shared openly.

An unspoken bond between two people (Alicia and Nick) that are now forced together on Fear the Walking Dead and have become very different people.
Both caught in the desire for leadership. No longer is Nick out there somewhere playing soccer while Alicia and Madison try to survive, all three poised for the throne.
Summer fling Jake and mother Madison’s ranch conflict with Alicia being pulled from both directions, a pivotal point in the season.
Without Travis, Debnam-Carey says Madison tries to keep the three of them together, while Nick takes on responsibility and Alicia wants to unify the whole lot of them.
