In a sneak peek of The Walking Dead season 8 at New York Comic Con, showrunners shared a very special clip meant to hearken back to season 1.

There’s no question that The Walking Dead fans enjoy every morsel of information they can get ahead of the October 22 premiere of AMC’s flagship show. But when Greg Nicotero teases a very special scene in one of those sneak peeks, it makes that little morsel of information even jucier.

During The Walking Dead panel at New York Comic Con, Greg Nicotero told fans that one of the scenes in the show’s 100th episode was very special because it included a shot-for-shot remake of a scene from the show’s series premiere.

Take a look at the scene, featuring Chandler Riggs’ Carl Grimes on a mission of some kind:

Did the scene look familiar to you? How about a little hint:

Yep, the scene with Carl is a remake of the scene featuring Rick Grimes in the show’s series premiere right before Rick encountered the Teddy Bear Walker, the little girl who clued in Rick that something big had happened.

It’s not often that The Walking Dead showrunners and writers can tie in moments like this into the show, which has now spanned eight seasons since the premiere. But when they can be worked in, writers love including little Easter Eggs that hint at previous episodes like this one, loved ones lost (Maggie wearing Glenn’s clothing), or even pop culture icons (the carnival scene from “Say Yes”).

There’s no question that season 8 is going to be massive, with All Out War brewing and rumors already swirling from cast members that there will be major losses ahead.
