All Out War between Rick Grimes and Negan continues tonight on The Walking Dead on season 8’s second episode, The Damned!

Let’s just say the last episode of The Walking Dead required suspension of disbelief turned up to an 11. Austin Powers satire/cartoony style with Negan’s narrow escape from Rick’s sudden lousy shooting. Almost as believable as the time Rosita shot Lucille instead of Negan at practically point blank range.

What are the odds? Okay, yes you can say this is still a zombie show, don’t look too much into it. However, The Walking Dead’s feature attraction has always been the undisputed realism of its world. Its unbridled sensible universe.

Not only was there suddenly no usual sniper set up when Negan came out of Sanctuary, not that one was needed at that range, mind you… But the man they despise so much was right there. Openly mocking them for minutes at a time. So naturally, the group sprays bullets at Sanctuary’s windows instead.

Wasting previously precious ammunition to send a warning. A warning to the viewer that major suspension of disbelief is gonna be the price of admission that Sunday. Rick and the gang’s group didn’t even seem that large compared to the gigantic infantries Sanctuary’s rolled out before.

Father Gabriel saves Negan for season 8

Then Father Gabriel tells Rick to leave because ‘it’s not about him’. Rick can easily run up and finish Negan right there but naturally he has no choice but to exit. To save face of course, and the season. This isn’t Terminus after all.

The action was majorly entertaining though, especially Daryl’s motorcycle ride to lead the walkers to Sanctuary. Finally, less talking, more doing!

Speaking of action, check out this awesome post-episode Negan scene

Negan is seen here going around bashing walkers with trusty Lucille. It’s actually one of the coolest moments in a while, should have been on the premiere. The 360 experience does add to the moment though. We even have kind of a recall to when Rick went under the tank in Season 1… Or Glenn with the dumpster, when Negan goes under the trailer.

The Walking Dead season 8, episode 2: ‘The Damned’ Sneak Peak

In the sneak peak, we see Morgan’s group plan out an attack on what appears to be another Negan Savior satellite outpost. They discuss going in silently. Though we remember what happened last time the group took down an outpost successfully…

What’s with all ‘the it’s not about revenge’, bigger person stuff this season? It’s totally about revenge! If they keep this ‘holier than thou’ moralistic attitude going, they’ll be losing many members to the Saviors in the next few episodes.
