Overall impression of TWD 803

This week’s episode of The Walking Dead bounced around a lot, much like the other installments of the series in season 8. However, episode 3 titled ‘Monsters’ was strong on a couple of big points.

More from Undead Walking

First off, losing Eric was a much bigger moment than losing Morales. The way that Eric’s death was used to help build Aaron is exactly the kind of thing that can make good characters great through character development.

Anytime things look to be going too well or characters start to get a lot of screen time, you know things are going to go bad soon. The Kingdom didn’t lose a single person until The Saviors opened fire with the Browning and Aaron gave us hope that Eric could live, only to find him dead and gone.

AMC’s zombie survival drama is a great show because it isn’t afraid to thin the herd when there are too many characters. All-Out War is doing just that this season, even though some of the characters being lost are supporting characters or a returning character like Morales.

As a whole, this episode wasn’t as excellent as last week’s installment of the story but still stands alone very well. I give it an 8.2 out of 10. Let’s hope that Carol, Ezekiel, and Jerry make it out of that gunfire alive!
