With news of The Walking Dead being picked up for season 9, there’s every reason to believe that stars Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus will also return.

For many fans of The Walking Dead, it wouldn’t be the same show without Rick Grimes and Daryl Dixon. It was bad enough losing Glenn Rhee, and losing Carl Grimes when the show returns for the second half of season 8 will be a major blow. Until now, AMC has remained mum about the ninth season but an official season 9 pickup ends speculation about what happens following season 8. And while two of the show’s principal stars haven’t signed on beyond season 8, things are looking good for Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus to return in season 9.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, both Lincoln and Reedus are in the process of negotiating their contracts for season 9 as we speak. Lincoln has mentioned that he feels his journey with Rick Grimes still has a way to go, while Reedus could see himself playing Daryl Dixon indefinitely.

Though nothing has been confirmed about casting for season 9, it is a comfort to know that Lincoln and Reedus are working on their contracts. Many fans view these two actors (and their characters) as integral for the show and it would be a drastic change to not have them around. (“If Daryl dies, we riot” has been the battle cry for many members of the TWD Family)

The Walking Dead is set to return for the second half of season 8 on February 25, and this is when Chandler Riggs’ Carl Grimes will say his goodbyes as he succumbs to the Walker bite he sustained while aiding Siddiq. With All Out War still being waged, there is so much more yet to come for the survivors, and that’s precisely why we need Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus in place for season 9.
