The Walking Dead’s Michael Cudlitz has been cast in an upcoming ABC comedy from acclaimed Last Man Standing showrunner Tim Doyle.

Michael Cudlitz is about to potentially embark on a comedy goldmine of a sitcom if Last Man Standing’s ratings are anything to go by. According to Deadline, he’ll be starring in a ABC comedy pilot from Tim Doyle set in the 1970s in a traditional working-class setting and Irish-Catholic background. Cudlitz will portray dad Mike Dwyer and be raising a total of eight sons with his wife on the series. If there was anyone that could slide into that kind of Tim Allen role for a series as an outspoken, masculine father, Cudlitz would top the list.

Abraham Ford already had an unfiltered way of speech and protective of those around him much like Tim Allen’s Mike Baxter on Last Man Standing. Keep in mind that when Last Man Standing was canceled, the only series with better ratings on ABC was Modern Family, practically the gold standard in modern sitcoms.

If this upcoming Doyle led production could garner even half of the 8.3 million viewers Last Man Standing did the series will be seeing a long shelf life. The sky’s the limit for Cudlitz as he gets an opportunity to show his natural comedic side to a whole new audience.

Viewers who might have never met Cudlitz on-screen on a dramatic show like The Walking Dead will be seeing him for the first time. He’ll be going into the Nielsen ratings war with a veteran showrunner who’s previously worked on iconic shows like Roseanne.

The Walking Dead’s Abraham Ford’s one-liners are stuff of show legend at this point from dolphin smooth to his nonchalant breakup with Rosita, “I thought you were the last woman on earth. You aren’t.” It’s a good bet the transition to a sitcom for Cudlitz will be seamless. Abraham Ford was last seen on The Walking Dead in the now infamous season 7 premiere scene with Negan.

Michael Cudlitz hasen’t forgotten fans of his action work in the slightest though! Mr. Ford currently has a film expected to release in 2018 titled Driven where he plays Morgan Hetrick. The picture’s description speaks of an “Intense thriller where politics, big business and narcotics collide.”

Cudlitz’s acting career will only continue to soar from here on out similar to good ole Shane Walsh, Jon Bernthal, who plays The Punisher on Netflix. Walking Dead alumni are forever.
