The relationship between Dwight and Daryl on The Walking Dead is a complicated one that viewers will see evolve when season 8 returns to AMC on February 25.

There are some pairings of characters who seem to be polarizing to viewers of AMC’s The Walking Dead. Of course, Negan and Rick are great examples of the conflict that can happen between two characters, but another combination appears to have a big part in season 8.

Ever since being introduced in season 6 episode 6 titled ‘Always Accountable’, Dwight has been in direct conflict with season 1 original Daryl Dixon. Those two continued to butt heads through the first half of season 8 but there could be an evolution between the two crossbow-wielding killing machines.

Recently, Entertainment Weekly caught up with Norman Reedus, who shed a little light on Daryl’s future interactions with Dwight in the second half of season 8.

"“That’s my favorite storyline going forward,” he says."

Considering the similarities between the two characters, it was inevitable that they would either become best friends or butt heads on a regular basis. Considering how they got off on the wrong foot, Reedus believes that Daryl can see Dwight’s motivations.

"“We all do horrible things in this world and Dwight did a bunch of crappy stuff and Daryl gets it, and Daryl knows that Dwight’s operating from a place of fear. Not to give anything away, but I’m very happy with that storyline going forward.”"

Even though Daryl may be able to understand Dwight, that doesn’t mean that he has to like him. In fact, the two don’t have to become an inseparable duo in the zombie apocalypse at all. All they need to do is be able to work together when needed…and not kill each other in the process.

"“He gets where he’s coming from, but he doesn’t like him. They don’t like each other. I think one person’s trying to hang out and the other person’s like, ‘Stay the f— away from me.’ You know what I mean? It’s like that whole thing of the snake biting the guy. He’s like, ‘Well, you know I’m a snake.’ It’s kind of like that a little bit.”"

While it would be hard to imagine Daryl and Dwight becoming great friends, the two could be a great pair if they were able to be on the same page.
