Lauren Cohan of The Walking Dead joins new ABC pilot Whiskey Cavalier

ABC has confirmed that The Walking Dead’s Lauren Cohan is set to star in a new pilot for the network. What does this mean for The Walking Dead?
TV Line announced today that The Walking Dead’s Lauren Cohan is confirmed to be starring in a new pilot for ABC. A rep from ABC confirmed Lauren’s involvement in the project.
Lauren will be starring in an action-dramedy called Whiskey Cavalier with Scott Foley. Foley plays an F.B.I. agent who is partnered with Cohan’s character and the two will go on adventures, save the world, fight spies, and navigate interoffice politics and relationships.
While it doesn’t look good for Lauren to continue playing Maggie Greene on The Walking Dead it’s not the time to panic yet TWD fans. Lauren is attached to the pilot for Whiskey Cavalier, but the show hasn’t been picked up for a full series yet. It’s still possible that the show won’t get a full series order and that the pilot won’t go anywhere. If that happens AMC could still work out a new contract with Lauren to keep Maggie alive on The Walking Dead.

ABC won’t announce their full schedule until May, which is usually when The Walking Dead starts production. Hopefully AMC will realize that losing Lauren would be a huge mistake and will amp up negotiations to reach a deal that both sides will be happy with.
What Happens To The Show If Lauren Leaves?
Losing Lauren Cohan would be a huge blow to The Walking Dead, which is already on unsteady ground with fans after the shocking death of Carl. But the show is prepared to go on without Maggie if a deal can’t be reached. Just recently Scott Gimple told TV Line that “these things happen in TV” referring to the possibility of Lauren leaving.
If Lauren does decide that she’s done with The Walking Dead her death could come during childbirth giving birth to Glenn’s child, which would be devastating for fans. Her death would also leave The Hilltop without a leader since the people of The Hilltop chose her as their leader over Gregory.

For now, all fans can do is wait and see what happens with Whiskey Cavalier and hope that AMC is able to work out a deal to keep Lauren Cohan on The Walking Dead as Maggie for at least one more season.
