I’m excited for the new season of Fear The Walking Dead, but, I’m also a little worried. I have a problem with how season three ended, and I DON’T want it repeated.

Let me begin this by saying the following: I LOVE Fear The Walking Dead. Frankly, I enjoy just about anything which focuses on the beginning of a zombie apocalypse. It’s why I enjoy the earlier seasons of The Walking Dead and especially Fear The Walking Dead.

That said, as much as I love the show, my love is not blind. There have been a couple of times the show has made missteps, in my opinion.

With season four introducing to at least three new characters plus Morgan, things are really looking up for Fear. However, herein lies my problem.

You see, last season, we got introduced to a slew of new characters, many of whom I grew to like. On top of that, several of them were very interesting, and it would have been nice to see them evolve as the apocalypse wore on.

I think my favorite example is Troy. To be perfectly honest, I kinda hoped Troy would become “The Merle” of Fear: A messed-up, somewhat offensive character who, over time, mellowed and became a strange component of our core group.

I mean, just go back and watch his relationship with Nick. It was easily one of the best parts of season three of Fear The Walking Dead, if not the entire series.

The two of them shared a strange symbiotic relationship with one another: Where Troy would try to keep Nick clean or, at least, hold him together when he was high, and Nick would try to keep Troy from going into Crazytown.

Watching the two slowly go from being enemies to friends, hating one another to becoming dependent on each other, was unique. Not since Rick and Daryl have we seen such a relationship form so organically in either Walking Dead series.

On top of that, we were introduced to Coop, Blake Sarno, Christine, Efrain, and Diana, all of whom seemed to be interesting characters who I’d have like to see in Season Four. If nothing else, they (Along with several others) were characters that I, over the season, came to care about.

But…what happened to almost everyone we met last season?

Oh yeah! They all died.

Seriously, pretty much everyone else, all those characters we were made to care about, died; Only Diana, Crazy Dog, Qaletaqa, and Proctor John, of the new Season Three characters, might still be alive.

Of course, as if that weren’t bad enough, we also lost two of our original characters last season, too! The season was practically book-ended by death, with Travis dying in the beginning and Ofelia dying near the end.

Wonderful.

And, on top of that, while I’ve seen screenshots with Luciana (Who disappeared last season), Strand, Madison, Alicia, Nick, maybe Daniel, and most of our newcomers, I still haven’t seen Qaletaqa, Crazy Dog, Proctor John or Diana in any of them!

See, my problem is: I’m worried that, by season’s end, outside of Morgan, none of our new characters will survive!

If last season’s any indication, new characters have the same life expectancy on Fear as doctors on The Walking Dead!

I’m getting frustrated just writing this…

Let me end my frustrations with this: I just hope the new characters this season actually survive into season five. If they just get killed off by October, I’m going to be extremely annoyed.

Next: Fear The Walking Dead: A Grievance

But, what do you think? Am I the only one who’s annoyed that so many characters got killed last season? Do you wish some of them had survived? Do you not care if any of them survived? Let me know in the comments!

And, of course, if you like this and want to hear my thoughts on how to survive the zombie apocalypse, why not pick up a copy of my book: The Rules: A Guide To Surviving The Zombie Apocalypse! You can get it on Kindle here and on iTunes here!
