The Good Stuff
Flashbacks with Rick and Carl. It has been a while since Carl died, but his legacy needs to live on. Rick reading Carl’s letter is a step toward him being able to accept that, and it allowed him to finally talk to Siddiq about Carl’s final moments.
Finally seeing the groups working together. I complained at the start of season 8 that they didn’t spend enough time setting up war. That did that in this episode, featuring the inspirational talk by people of The Hilltop, The Kingdom, and Alexandria.
Jesus trying to help Morgan. It’s obvious that Carol, Jesus, Rick, and others from The Hilltop care greatly about Morgan and are worried about his mental state. They obviously want to see Morgan get better and stop looking at killing as the only way to protect those he cares about.
Eugene got the last laugh. He got treated poorly by Rosita, Daryl, and others at the gate of Alexandria in the past, but that didn’t stop Eugene from doing what he knew was right by sabotaging the ammunition that would be used to kill his former traveling companions.
Oceanside on the scene! FINALLY! It took WAY too long to happen, but Aaron and the efforts of Tara, Enid, and others got the survivors on the battlefield, even if it wasn’t in a moment where they were face to face with Negan and they were faced with opponents with vastly superior firepower.
