Fear the Walking Dead: Why Al is well-suited for the apocalypse
There’s a good reason Althea is well suited for the apocalypse on Fear the Walking Dead, and it has to do with her profession before the world fell apart.
Fear the Walking Dead newcomer Althea is definitely a survivor, and she’s determined to document every aspect of the fall of civilization. If it’s possible to say that someone is perfectly suited for the fall of civilization, then Althea is proof positive that some people can adapt better than others.
Al (Maggie Grace) was a journalist before the world fell apart. Like Lois Lane of Superman fame, you can imagine that Al was knee-deep in all kinds of situations covering the story. From wars to riots, natural disasters to tragedies, reporters see it all and have to adapt in order to get the job done. There’s no time to be squeamish, because the story is always the most important thing.

You can only imagine the things that some journalists witness on a regular basis. Those who have covered war zones have seen death and destruction in ways that some people could never begin to understand.
It’s easy to imagine that Al was on the frontlines of the outbreak as it happened, and she was in a position to prepare for it when she saw that it was only getting worse. She also wants to capture the stories of the people she meets. Not only does it help establish a record of what happened, but knowing more about newcomers might yield useful information about nearby resources or threats.
Al is going to be a fun character to watch this season on Fear the Walking Dead. She’s strong and she’s capable, and she has no trouble taking challenges head-on as they appear. She’s a badass and she’ll be a valuable member of any team. The question is whose team she will end up on. We ended the season premiere on a bit of a cliffhanger, so it’s hard to say where she’ll end up.
