Season 8 of The Walking Dead has come to a shocking close as Negan is finally defeated. However it is Maggie’s reaction to learning that Negan is still alive that is this week’s Talked About Scene.

Rick had a tough choice to make on the season finale of The Walking Dead. He and his people marched out of The Hilltop following the map and instructions Dwight handed Gregory the episode prior with one mission to complete.

Following the map as Negan planned, Rick’s group came across the small walker traps before moving out in an open field. What Negan didn’t plan was Eugene providing the Saviors with faulty bullets resulting in a loud array of misfires.

Rick’s people attack, able to take out the wounded Saviors while Rick follows Negan to face him one last time.

Even with one wounded hand Negan is able to overpower Rick. Leaving Rick no choice he tries to delay Negan from striking him with Lucille.

Reminding the heated Savior what Carl wanted seemed to work in Rick’s favor. Taking a broken piece from one of the stained glass windows hanging from the tree, Rick slits Negan’s throat.

Audiences shared Negan’s devastated expression as he collapses just in time for the rest of Rick’s people to see the result. The moment Rick orders Siddiq to “save him (Negan)” Maggie erupts into a heart wrenching frenzy.

It was this moment that takes audiences on another unexpected whirlwind. With the war over, another may be starting for Rick.

Check out the video of the shocking conversation between Maggie, Jesus and Daryl in this week’s Talked About Scene from The Walking Dead as shared on the official YouTube channel of AMC:

Back at the Hilltop Maggie sits in her office with Jesus, discussing her disappointment with Rick’s decision to keep Negan alive. “Rick was wrong to do what he did. Michonne too,” Maggie explained to Jesus calmly.

Maggie might be the one with the most hatred towards the bat swinging fallen leader of The Saviors.

The man killed her husband, Glenn, with Lucille before her eyes that fateful night with a smile. Ever since then she had been determined to gather people and resources to fight back, even when Rick was too afraid to.

We can assume she has not read her letter from Carl; nor know what he wrote to Negan and Rick. Even when Rick made a powerful speech as to why Negan had to be spared Maggie could not listen.

It was clear she hadn’t stopped grieving and possibly never will. Rick’s decision to spare Negan has split fans down the middle and may have unintentionally split his family.

As Jesus nods in agreement to Maggie’s plan Daryl emerges from the shadows of the room and agrees to strengthen The Hilltop first and wait for the right moment. Rick cannot seem to catch a break and may have to face the music for saving Negan.

What will we find in Season 9? Who will join Maggie?

Before Maggie can make a move, “We have a lot to do.”
