Ross Marquand was already part of one of the biggest shows around, but The Walking Dead star also had a secret role in Avengers: Infinity War.

The biggest movie on the planet right now is Avengers: Infinity War and there are two actors from The Walking Dead starring in the blockbuster film. We already knew that Black Panther star Danai Gurira was reprising her role as Okoye of the Dora Milaje, but it turns out that Ross Marquand was also in the movie and he didn’t tell anyone about it. In fact, he even kept the secret from Gurira.

SPOILERS AHEAD if your haven’t seen Avengers: Infinity War.

Ross Marquand plays Aaron on The Walking Dead, but if you look closely you’ll find him in a key role in Infinity Role: Marquand brings Red Skull to life. We haven’t seen Red Skull since he disappeared after a run-in with the Tesseract in Captain America: The First Avenger. Now we learn that Red Skull has been trapped on the planet Vormir, where he is tasked with protecting the Soul Stone. Red Skull shows up at a very key point in Infinity War and shares a critical scene with the movie’s villain, Thanos (Josh Brolin).

Marquand talked to Entertainment Weekly about being cast in the Marvel Universe, and he admitted that he was so afraid of Marvel’s non-disclosure agreements that he didn’t even tell Danai Gurira that he was going to be in the same movie, telling EW, “No. Because I’m scared to God! These NDAs put the fear of God in you.” (To be fair, Red Skull and Okoye never appear together, which is why the actors wouldn’t know that they’re both in the same movie.)

After the movie came out, Marquand said his phone started blowing up as people realized he was in the movie:

"“I spent all day yesterday and the day before responding to texts, and it was really cool because you feel the love and you feel the support. A lot of friends were angry with me and said, “I can’t believe you didn’t tell me! Why didn’t you tell me?” And I was like, “I couldn’t tell you!” They were also just kind of baffled because it’s such an iconic role, and if they were expecting me to play a character, it wouldn’t be that one. I’m just so thrilled to be a part of it, you have no idea.”"

Marquand isn’t sure whether or not Red Skull will return in a future Avengers movie, but he’s open to reprising the role. For now, though, Marquand is back at work on season 9 of The Walking Dead.
