The Walking Dead to offer unique 15th anniversary issue #1 variant cover
By Adam Carlson
Fans of The Walking Dead comic books won’t want to miss a limited edition variant cover of issue #1 by artist Charlie Adlard and Dave Stewart.
It’s difficult to believe that nearly fifteen years have passed since The Walking Dead comic book series first introduced fans to sheriff Rick Grimes and their favorite survivors of the zombie apocalypse.
Released on October 8, 2003, issue #1 featured artwork showing Rick standing next to a mangled car in front of a broken shop window with walkers in the reflection of the glass as well as inside the store.
For reference, take a look at the original cover for the first issue of the comic book series as shared on the official website of The Walking Dead from Skybound:
In honor of the 15th anniversary of the comic series, a new variant cover for the first ever issue will be released featuring artwork from UK Comic Laureate Charlie Adlard and colored by Dave Stewart.
Here is the variant cover fans will be able to get their hands on when released on Saturday, October 13th:
Eagle-eyed fans will notice that Adlard has made some fun adjustments to the shop front, making it a comic shop and filling it with great comic-related products, including many from the Skybound family.
"“He has re-imagined the first issue with Rick standing in front of a comic shop surrounded by familiar Skybound titles like Invincible, Manifest Destiny, Extremity, Outcast, Oblivion Song, and more.”"
Not only that, but some comic retailers will have the opportunity to have their store logo put on the front of the issue, although more information on that will come in the future, along with some more anniversary exclusives.
