Was issue 182 of The Walking Dead comics any good? Here are the positives and negatives from ‘The Commonwealth Grows’ from August 1, 2018.

The Walking Dead released issue 182 of the comics on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 to continue the story of Pamela Milton and The Commonwealth scoping out the communities led by Rick Grimes.

The story has been an interesting one so far, with many directions the communities as well as individual characters could go following the conflict and camaraderie being developed between the groups.

Let’s take a look at some of the good, bad, and interesting things from the issue titled ‘The Commonwealth Grows’. Of course, it is HIGHLY advised that you be caught up on the story before reading, and you can CHECK OUT THE FULL RECAP HERE!

The good stuff

  • Rick opening communication with Dwight. The relationship between Rick and Dwight is hugely complicated. The fact these two even had that talk on the ride is great, and having Laura to help
  • Carl’s concern for his father. Losing Andrea shattered Rick, but Carl still knew he had to do what the people needed and help with the rebuild of The Hilltop. The two are on the same page, and that’s always a good thing.
  • Eugene’s surprise. It will be fun to see what he’s got prepared for when they arrive at The Commonwealth. There haven’t really been any hints as to what it might be…so this should be a fun development.

The bad things

  • Maggie is a liability. I don’t blame her for being skeptical of Pamela and The Commonwealth, but the way she was treating the new people is not a good sign that she could be someone to compromise in the future.
  • John is up to something. It’s never a good thing when the new leader of The Saviors is nice and friendly to someone. There has to be some ulterior motive driving his plan to be so friendly. Only time will tell what that is though.
  • Mercer sounds sick of The Commonwealth. We all know he’s tired of working for the family of the governor, but would Mercer really make the jump to Alexandria. And would Pamela even allow that to happen? Sounds like it could be a problem.

The interesting stuff and thangs

  • How can Christopher not like tomatoes? Sure, I understand that eating them raw probably isn’t a great time, but tomatoes can be so good as parts of recipes…and especially as a sauce! C’mon man.
  • So, what did John do before the outbreak? A man like John could have done a multitude of things before the undead took over the earth. But I wouldn’t be shocked to see him being a bouncer or security guard of some sort. What do you think?
  • Politics being the divider. Which side will win out, the class-based system of The Commonwealth or a system of equality like the one in Alexandria? Either way, it’ll be interesting to see how that all works out.

Issue 182 of the comics may not have been action-packed, but it set up many interesting storylines to develop going forward. The only question now is if Rick will be as impressed with The Commonwealth as Michonne was.
