The Good Stuff from 903

  1. Setting the tone. Revealing right away that Justin of The Saviors was killed and not abducted was a nice way to start the episode. It answered the cliffhanger right away and made viewers wonder just what was happening to the people.
  2. Putting family as the focus. For a while, TWD was the superhero show while FearTWD was the family show. Now, with so many relationships and intimate moments, it seems like AMC may have switched those roles going forward and viewers could see a more character-driven zombie apocalypse on their flagship show, which I am all for!
  3. Laura ain’t having it. While many of The Saviors were content in watching Jed disrespect Maggie, Laura stepped up and not only gave his real name but made him accountable for his actions. Over time, Laura seems like she could be a real asset to any community she makes her home.
  4. Rick’s ability to restore order. The campsite of the bridge workers was about to erupt before Rick arrived. In one quick swoop, he settled things with those looking for answers about The Saviors and opened a dialogue with Maggie about protection for the workers. Looks like his police training came in handy yet again!
  5. The big reveal. Having Oceanside getting revenge for the massacre of their husbands and sons was a great touch and an interesting way to divide the communities logically in order to create drama for the start of the season. Imagine having to work with the person who killed your loved one every day…that would be enough to make people do horrible things.
  6. Setting the stage for more drama. Now that Maggie and Daryl have confirmed to themselves with the help of Oceanside that Rick’s vision for the new world isn’t going to work, they are planning on seeing Negan…likely to finish what they didn’t do at the end of All-Out War. The only question is where this leaves Oceanside and The Sanctuary.
