King Ezekiel

Are we in store for a royal funeral? That is certainly a possibility. Ezekiel is one of the most dramatic characters on the show, and The Whisperers seem to match that level of theatrics with their stealth methods. Since joining the show at the start of season 7, Ezekiel has lost a lot with almost his entire army being wiped out and his beloved Shiva being devoured by walkers. He has also gained a lot, specifically after the conclusion of All Out War. Not only is Ezekiel a King, but he is also the father to a Prince and the husband to a Queen. The death of Ezekiel would certainly spur major developments for Carol and Henry as they struggle to seek revenge. Following the six year time jump, the Kingdom isn’t doing all that great, and the death of their ruler might just push the community into extinction.

If the show decides to follow the comics closely with this arc, there is further reason to believe Ezekiel will meet his end here. Similarly to what happens to Rosita in the comics, Ezekiel is kidnapped during the fair and decapitated by Alpha, leader of The Whisperers. There is an absolutely chilling end to issue 144 as the group of survivors find the heads of their friends on pikes, and special focus is given to Ezekiel’s dreads blowing in the wind. This would certainly make for an impactful final shot of an episode, or even for the season as a whole.

Jerry

It is painful to include this character on the list. He’s quite possibly the most lovable character to ever grace the screen on The Walking Dead. Jerry is a loyal steward of King Ezekiel and would do anything to keep his leader safe and alive. Having managed to survive the carnage that took place in season 8, one could argue that Jerry would be safe. However, that probably isn’t true seeing as how the happy and good-natured characters typically don’t survive. We all love Jerry and seeing him die a painful death, possibly even with his head on a pike, would just be far too much to bare. That being said, it would serve to turn the audience against The Whisperers and inspire characters such as Ezekiel, Carol, Henry, and other Kingdom residents to fight back. Perhaps, Jerry will take on comic Ezekiel’s death, protecting the king just as he has always done. The fact that Jerry is also in a romantic relationship with Nabila furthers the concern that he might not make it out of this conflict alive.
