Fans of The Walking Dead know him as Merle Dixon but soon they can see Michael Rooker in the film adaptation of the popular television show Fantasy Island.
Being in the zombie apocalypse has been great for many cast members of The Walking Dead. Multiple actors have gone on to be in numerous film and television projects after their time on the AMC drama while others have seen a resurgence in their career.
One of the biggest names from the popular zombie survival drama series is Michael Rooker. Known for his role as Merle Dixon, he has been in massive roles following his exit from the AMC program, including the Guardians of the Galaxy movies and The Belko Experiment.
According to Deadline, Rooker has landed a role in the upcoming film Fantasy Island. It will be an adaptation of the popular AMC television show which gained popularity from 1977–1984 and made a return from 1998 to 1999.
The original Fantasy Island show on ABC had an intriguing plot which could lend well to a feature film. IMDB explains it as discussing “Accounts of visitors to a unique resort island in the Pacific Ocean that can fulfill literally any fantasy requested, but rarely turn out as expected.”
Rooker joins Michael Peña, Lucy Hale, Maggie Q, Portia Doubleday, Jimmy O. Yang, Ryan Hansen, and others on the project which begins production next week in Fiji. At this time, details on the plot of the film and the role Michael Rooker will play are unknown, but knowing the actor, odds are his performance will be solid to excellent as always.
Fantasy Island will be directed by Jeff Wadlow and will be released by Sony on February 28, 2020. With that great cast and some interesting material to build off, fans of The Walking Dead and Michael Rooker should be excited to take a trip Fantasy Island in 2020.
