The Walking Dead: 15 greatest Rick Grimes moments of all-time

No. 4: Rick Makes a Game-Changing Discovery
Season 1, Episode 2: “Guts”
This episode was the first time Rick realized covering themselves in walker guts would allow them to blend in with the hordes. This early on, Rick’s discovery may not have seemed like the biggest deal, but it was, it really was. Given the new nature of the world. it was often impossible to avoid the undead monsters all over the place.
It’s an understated moment of Rick’s, especially because it would go on to save so many lives (unless you’re Sam and start screaming out in the middle of a horde). This episode, in general, is a very early start to what Rick would eventually turn into. After meeting Glenn in the pilot, Rick meets Merle and T-Dog, and when Merle starts to act out, Rick leaves him handcuffed to a pipe on the roof.
It’s ironic that this man’s brother would go on to be Rick’s BFF in the series, isn’t it? Nonetheless, there are pockets of hidden strength that slowly trickle out of Rick in this episode. It’s some of his greatest work, even if it doesn’t feel like it. Using guts to hide in plain sight was absolutely genius, and according to us, not an idea anyone else had up until this point.
This is also the episode where Glenn makes contact with the camp that Lori and Carl are currently at. We don’t have to be the ones to tell you how much this reunion would go onto impact Rick’s life forever. But hey, at least he’s the smartest person in the apocalypse, even if his wife slept with his best friend.
