March was a good time for The Walking Dead, with Volume 31 titled “The Rotten Core” topping graphic novel sales for the month for Image Comics and Skybound.

Readers and collectors of The Walking Dead comics have a lot of options when it comes to how to own their piece of the series. While some choose to read digitally, others like physical copies of individual issues, volumes, or compendiums.

With Volume 31 titled “The Rotten Core” being released on Mar. 6, it was obvious it was going to be quite popular among readers looking to catch up on the story or add a new book to the collection.

Recently, Newsarama shared that Volume 31 was the top-selling graphic novel for the month of March, which shouldn’t be much of a surprise since fans have been waiting to see what is next after the conclusion of the story with the Whisperers.

Volume 31 contains issues #181-186, which includes the new community called the Commonwealth as well as Governor Pamela Milton, setting the tone for the story which is being told in the comic book series.

Here is how Volume 31 is described on the website of Image Comics:

"“Rick leads the Commonwealth’s Governor, Pamela Milton, on a tour of the various communities Alexandria is aligned with. Naturally… terrible things begin to happen very quickly.”"

In addition, the March single issue of The Walking Dead was the top non-Marvel or DC comic purchased. Issue 189 set the stage for an explosive showdown which caused Rick Grimes to make some tough decisions in hopes of keeping the peace in the Commonwealth.
