What happened in the May 2019 installment of The Walking Dead comics? Here is the full recap of events from issue 191 titled “The Last Stand”.

The Walking Dead set the stage for a big showdown between the Governor of the Commonwealth with soldiers from Greenville and the survivors who are demanding change in the community, and that showdown is happening now.

Picking up right where last month’s issue left off, this is an issue fans of the comic book series are not going to want to miss. So, without further ado, here is everything that happens in issue 191 titled “The Last Stand” from May 2019.

**WARNING: Full spoilers for issue 191 of The Walking Dead below**

Rick screams for the soldiers not to attack. Once again, he wants to talk things out before any impulsive decisions are made. Angry, Pamela scolds her soldiers for not doing as they are told.

Having appealed to the soldiers, Rick says the soldiers are acting reasonably and she should do the same unless she feels she can fight this battle on her own. After some silence, he realizes she isn’t willing to do so.

Rick says he understands why Pamela wants to fight so hard for the Commonwealth. Everything they have built is there. However, it has also torn itself apart internally and that shouldn’t be who they are.

Taking off his prosthetic, he raises his handless arm to the sky and says the world is scarred and survivors have to carry those with them every day. They remind people of the sacrifices they made to get where they are. He added that the Commonwealth proved that survivors can live the way they did before the outbreak and that is a bright spot for the future…all they need to do is respect each other.

Rick says Pamela would have her own people kill each other if that meant keeping her in power and that he was wrong to support her in the past. He tells the people that if they don’t want Milton leading them that they should be vocal about it and be heard.

Mercer moves over to Pamela and secures her to bring her to custody for safety, telling the crowd to disperse. However, Sebastian isn’t having any of it. He starts to run after her but is scolded by his mother to stay where he is unless he wants to end up in a cell too.

Later that day, Mercer and the group are cleaning up the streets and repairing the damage. Rick says it’s amazing what people can accomplish when they work together. Mercer adds that Rick has inspired the people…and he is seeing people helping who he has never seen lift a finger before. One person still not helping is Sebastian.

Inside her cell, Pamela is visited by Rick. She asks if he is there to gloat but instead he apologizes. He says he didn’t intend on her getting arrested and he was just looking out for the people, but it is probably safer for her inside the cell anyway.

Pamela reminds Rick that he riled the group up but Rick was quick to shut that down by reminding her of the battle she was trying to create. She says it all got away from her and she thought to stay in power would help save more people. He says he makes mistakes too, opening the cell door and telling her to sleep in her own bed tonight. Guards will escort her home.

Curious, Mercer asks Rick if he’s sure about this, but is told that she isn’t a threat anymore and because she has lost the people. Mercer says she should be safe because people are happy to see the change in the Commonwealth but they will keep guards on watch.

Back in Michonne’s apartment, she is talking with Rick. She says that if he were to run for a leadership position in the Commonwealth, that he would definitely win. He thinks she would be a better fit since she laid the groundwork and calls it her home.

Moving to the street, Rick is talking with Carl. Carl asks his father if he will be running for Governor, but Rick shuts that down quickly. He says they need someone who is already there to take it over, not an outsider otherwise they may not accept them. Carl asks how his dad sees the future and can plan ahead, but Rick just follows his feelings.

Carl says his feelings aren’t always right. His dad tells him that as long as he is doing things for the right reasons and trying to do what is best, he will get things right most of the time. And that what he gets wrong he needs to be able to forgive himself for and not discourage him. Carl reaches his hotel and says goodnight.

Laying in bed in the middle of the night, Rick is awakened by Sebastian standing in his doorway. Pamela’s son has a pistol and tells him not to make a sound or move. Sebastian says he isn’t going to allow everything his mom worked for to be flushed away and blames Rick for it all. He says Rick must feel powerful now that he has hurt his family so badly.

Rick pleads for Sebastian not to do this, but the gun is fired. The bullet hits Rick in the chest and he starts to write in pain on the bed. Blood is coming out of his mouth and chest as the issue comes to an end.
