Colman Domingo is stepping behind the camera once again in Fear the Walking Dead season 5, and he took a moment to honor the directors who have inspired him.

Fear the Walking Dead star Colman Domingo has come a long way over the course of his 28-year career and it’s because he’s a self-made man who learned as much as he could along the way. In an Instagram post ahead of the Vineyard Gala celebrating his achievements on May 6, Domingo celebrated the directors who have helped him to become the man he is today.

In his post Domingo mentions that he has very little by way of formal training and so everything he knows comes from the role models and icons in his life. Here’s what Domingo said:

"Pay attention to detail. I have been mentored by some extraordinary directors whether they know it or not. Andrew Bernstein, Robert O’Hara, Danny Scheie, Lisa Peterson, Michael Satrazemis, Sydney Lumet, Robert Altman, Adam Davidson, Steven Spielberg, Susan Stroman, Lee Daniels, Spike Lee and so many more. I’ve learned everything that I know in this business by doing, watching, reading, learning. I have little to no formal training for anything that I do. I have a willingness to be wrong, daring, change, grow, risk, lose and win. And faith. That’s all. #honoredtobehonoredMay6 #vineyardtheatre #28yearsinthisbiz"

The list is certainly impressive and it says a lot about Domingo’s passion for acting and directing that he spent so much time learning what he could about the craft over the past 28 years. It’s also very telling that Domingo is willing to lay it all on the line in order to pursue his dreams. He is nothing if not passionate about everything he does.

Domingo will return to direct Fear the Walking Dead in season 5 after his impressive directorial debut on the show in season 4. The episode he directed, episode 412 “Weak”, was a turning point for June and Al when Al’s health took a turn for the worse and forced June to step up to save her. It was also the moment when Morgan
