Memorial Day: Remembering every named death on The Walking Dead
Over the past nine seasons there have been quite a few deaths on The Walking Dead, and on Memorial Day we pay tribute to those we lost.
Memorial Day is a time to reflect and honor those who have sacrificed themselves for our freedoms. At some point in the world of The Walking Dead, after the dust settles and civilization rebuilds, the concept of Memorial Day will take on a whole new meaning as survivors honor people who were lost since the start of the apocalypse. Until then, we have compiled a list of all of the “named” character deaths over the course of nine seasons.
Our Adam B. Carlson has been the faithful steward of The Walking Dead losses. At the end of each season he collects the names of the fallen in an article that highlights each and every loss. This memorial is a way to not only honor the fallen on the show but to keep track of how many named deaths there have been over the years.
Every death has a story, true enough, and over the years there have been far more deaths than just the “named” deaths that makes these lists. To be added to Adam’s list the character had to have a name, indicating that he or she was more than a nameless background character.

From Sophia to Merle, Hershel to Carl and oh-so-many villains along the way, each of these tribute lists reveals just how far The Walking Dead has come in nine seasons and how many characters once existed in this world.
