**Warning: Full spoilers from The Walking Dead issue 192 below**
The issue picks up right where the last issue left off. Sebastian is in shock that he pulled the trigger of his gun and is apologizing to Rick Grimes. With his chest clutched and blood gushing out, Rick is then shot more times and his body falls to the bed. Dropping his gun on the ground, Sebastian runs away and Rick’s body is motionless.
Everyone is enjoying their morning at the Commonwealth. Maggie, Jesus, and Aaron are having breakfast and they meet up with Carl, who had just woke up. They have a talk about eating pancakes before Carl says he wants to wake up his dad to eat.
Carl walks into the house where Rick is staying and makes his way to the bedroom. Opening the door, he sees Rick standing up…however, he is a walker.
Shocked, Carl raises his gun and shoots his zombified father in the head. As the body falls to the ground, tears start to fall from Carl’s eyes. The young man collapses to the ground, with the emotional pain being too great for him to handle.
Someone heard the gunshot and was made their way into the house. It was guards from the Commonwealth who immediately call for Mercer to arrive on the scene. When Mercer arrives, he immediately recognizes the gun on the floor.
Later, Michonne has arrived to be with Carl. He says he didn’t even see his father in that split second, but instead only saw a walker. He thought back to the days at the prison, where he felt life wouldn’t be living without his father. He is still afraid to live without his father and pushes himself by playing the “what if” game.
What if he had waited to find him? What if he was still at the Hilltop? His father still would have been alive for that time being. He continued to beat himself up about it.
Two days had passed, but Pamela now addresses Carl, Michonne, and Maggie. She says their investigation has concluded and they can confirm that Sebastian was the killer.
Carl immediately asks to see him, but Sebastian has been placed into custody for his actions. Instead of letting them chat, Pamela wants to talk to Carl about what happened and make sure he doesn’t take justice into his own hands.
When Carl asks if Sebastian will be punished, Pamela breaks down and tears fall from her face. She says she loves him with all her heart but he would be behind bars for the rest of his life.
Unimpressed with her answer, Carl sympathizes with her pain and apologizes for the pain she’s feeling. Michonne is less polite, saying her time in power is coming to a close. Hearing the whole thing, Mercer is unimpressed.
In his cell, Sebastian is visited by Carl. He doesn’t know what to say to the son of the man he murdered, as he cowers and sobs in the corner of his cell. Sebastian finally finds the words to tell Carl that he thought killing Rick would bring everything back to normal at the Commonwealth and he thought he could get away with anything. Adding that killing someone was so easy, yet permanent.
Carl had heard enough. He tells Sebastian that nobody likes him and he won’t feel sorry for him. He adds that Sebastian doesn’t feel bad about what he did, but he is sad he got caught and will be punished. Sebastian is told that Pamela was worried Carl would take matters into his own hands, but instead, he enjoys watching him sit and remember the life he had before he killed Rick Grimes.
This punishment is one Carl feels his father would deem appropriate…however, if Sebastian is ever to get out of his cell that he will hurt him.
A casket with Rick’s body has been loaded into a cart to be transported back to Alexandria. Michonne makes sure Carl is ready to go and he says he’s ready to bury his father next to Andrea. He says he can make the trip alone, but Michonne offers to come along.
Maggie stops them before they can leave and asks them to wait an hour because there are others who want to make the trip and pay their respects. It turns out nearly everyone at the Commonwealth want to go with.
The convoy of wagons is on their way to Alexandria when Carl falls off his ride. He had collapsed once again under the weight of the loss of his father. With tears in his eyes, he says he can’t do it anymore as the issue comes to an end.
