The Walking Dead comic issue 193 recap: The Grimes family legacy
By Adam Carlson
Back in Michonne’s chambers, she jokingly teases Carl about using her sword to kill the walkers, but also reminds him of the difference between Judge Hawthorne and Michonne. She explains that it is the name her ex-husband gave her but never changed back after reminding her of a failed marriage and lost children but now feels she has earned the right to use again…thanks to the efforts of Rick Grimes.
She adds that many people feel Rick is put on a pedestal but she disagrees. Sure, they shared a lot of the work, but his efforts have helped to teach her right from wrong, not just legal from illegal. Plus, she’s shocked that Andrea is six years old already.
Outside Michonne’s chambers, Hershel is waiting for Carl. He says his business provided a service and helped to put fear back into people about the undead, not make a mockery of it. He added that nobody remembers his father or what Glenn accomplished, so he lives his life through those feelings, telling Carl to f**k off.
Reunited, Carl and Sophia embrace. He says he is relieved and ready to go home to celebrate. Some kids sitting on the statue outside start to make fun of his eyepatch before one realizes it is Carl Grimes and apologizes. Sophia says one more generation and people will start to take the Grimes name for granted.
The statue is of Rick, posed with his stubbed arm in the air and the other clenched while his mouth is open as if making a declaration. Carl jokes the statue is exaggerated in a lot of ways, but Sophia says it’s how people want to remember him: the man who made the world.
Back at the farmhouse, Sophia and Carl are talking on the porch. They are looking at their life as it is now and being thankful for what they have. Sophia says it’s been so long since she’s been scared that they can’t remember.
As they are about to kiss, Andrea shows up and asks Carl to read a story before bed. He jokes that she just wants to stay up later, but gives in and leads her to a rocking chair to read her a book.
