There is no way that Robert Kirkman could have predicted the response that Todd McFarlane had when he learned The Walking Dead comic series ended.

Many fans are still in shock that The Walking Dead is done. The popular comic book series came to an abrupt end with issue 193 and not only was it a stunning conclusion but it was an emotional one that did its best to explain the legacy of the Grimes family.

Honestly, it probably hasn’t hit a lot of fans that there won’t be a new issue of the series coming out for August. Normally, this would be the time of the month when previews would be released and people would be speculating about what will happen next.

Sadly, there will not be that release…and there won’t be another the month after that. Readers aren’t the only ones struggling with the fact that the series created by Robert Kirkman has concluded, other comic creators are feeling the impact as well.

According to Bleeding Cool, Spawn creator Todd McFarlane got in contact with Robert Kirkman when he found out that issue 193 was the final installment in the series.

While at San Diego Comic-Con, McFarlane was featured in one of the last panels. He brought people on stage to ink a page of original Spawn art from issue 300 and talked about wanting to reach issue 600 with the series and have the comic outlive him. And he took a jab at Kirkman while doing so.

"“Will I quit like Robert Kirkman? No. I already yelled at him for that.”"

This was likely said in jest, but there are some fans out there who do feel like fans deserve more from The Walking Dead comics and aren’t satisfied with how the series ended. However, the story is not being told by fans on Twitter or even by McFarlane, and there has to be some respect for finishing a story when it is done and not dragging it along just to keep the property alive.

Plus, it’s not like the entire universe of The Walking Dead has ended. There are three television shows, three movies, multiple games, an ocean of toys and action figures, and so much more out there to keep the franchise alive.

There are times yelling at Robert Kirkman for ending The Walking Dead feels like the right thing to do. But then a level head should prevail and readers should sit back and enjoy the adventure fans went on with the series.

And who knows…maybe Kirkman will decide to revisit one (or more) of the popular characters from the comics in the future.
