The Walking Dead world doesn’t feel right without a new comic issue
By Adam Carlson
With The Walking Dead comic book series ending in July, August is the first month a new issue wasn’t released…and that just doesn’t feel right.
Do you ever get the feeling like something is missing? That’s how I am feeling now that The Walking Dead comic book series has come to an end and no new issues will be released on a monthly basis anymore.
Today would have been the release of issue 194. Instead, there is nothing. No continuation of the story of our favorite survivors trying to save the zombie apocalypse. No threats to overcome. And no Letter Hacks from Robert Kirkman and Sean Mackiewicz.
While I love the television show and am looking forward to the movies, I won’t hide that the comic book series was my true love when it comes to The Walking Dead. It gave me something to look forward to each month and each issue always seemed to leave me wanting more after the last panel was read.
Of course, there is always hope there will be more comics based on the property. Whether it might be one following Negan or a completely different story, it would be nice to open a new comic from Robert Kirkman, Image Comics, and Skybound. Sadly, that won’t be happening any time soon.
It’s not as though The Walking Dead didn’t put a bow on their series. Issue 193 did a great job of giving readers an ending and giving them a glimpse at what nearly every character was up to years after the death of Rick Grimes.
Still, there is that hollow feeling. It is made even worse by the lack of new episodes of Fear the Walking Dead or The Walking Dead this week. The conclusion of the series never felt real until today…but with no new issue being released, it’s time to finally accept that the comic book series is really done.
