Danay Garcia’s short film “The Cure” continues to make waves at festivals all over the world. Next up is the Shorts Mexico Film Festival.

The Fear the Walking Dead cast is immensely talented and star Danay Garcia has been a busy woman as her short film The Cure (La cura) has been moving from screen to screen on the busy film festival circuit. Up next: The Shorts Mexico Film Festival.

The Cure is the story of a small Mexican town that becomes the target of a deadly virus. The local priest is faced with a major dilemma as he searches for a way to help his people while being true to his faith.

Garcia wrote the script for The Cure and produced the film with her production company This Is Happening. And as if that wasn’t enough, she also co-directed the movie with Leandro Arvelo. The film kicked off the Baja California Film Festival back in June.

Now The Cure is heading to the Shorts Mexico Film Festival on September 6 in Mexico City. This is another exciting opportunity to highlight the film and its powerful message about faith in the darkest of times.

Here’s the synopsis of The Cure:

"A small town in Mexico begins to feel the effects of an unknown disease moving across the region, forcing the local pastor to question his faith and make an ethical decision that will impact the lives of everyone in his village. The death of a young girl and an offer from a sinner seeking redemption forces the pastor to search deep within himself for an answer on how to best serve his followers. As the pastor grapples with this decision and his sins from a former life, he struggles to separate right from wrong as the fate of an entire community rests in his morally-challenged hands."

Garcia is clearly just as talented behind the camera as she is in front of it, and it’s only a matter of time before she joins fellow Fear cast member Colman Domingo and The Walking Dead alum Michael Cudlitz in the TWD Director’s Circle. (In fact, Domingo stars in the short film Nothingman, which just completed its festival run and is available to viewers on Apple TV and iTunes)

The Cure isn’t currently available to viewers outside of the festival circuit, but we’ll be sure to let you know when it becomes available. For now, you can catch Danay Garcia as Luciana in season 5 of Fear the Walking Dead.
