Rick And Ezekiel Rally The Communities

Season 8, Episode 1, “Mercy”

Jeffrey says:

If you love big epic speeches like I do, then you know that Rick, Maggie, and King Ezekiel are three of the best at rallying their people. The start of All Out War is incredibly triumphant and inspiring, primarily due to the leadership we see from those three characters. Gathering their fighters in a field prior to the attack on the Sanctuary, we see firsthand just how important a strong rallying speech is.

Standing before the three united communities, Rick tells everyone how it was Jesus that showed him the larger world in the apocalypse that he was previously unaware of. “We found that world. We found each other. That bigger world is ours by right,” is a line that really emphasizes Rick’s determination to break free of the Savior reign and bring freedom to everyone. He really notes that the free world they are trying to build is for anyone that is willing to fight for freedom, but is not for those trying to keep Negan’s way alive.

Anytime King Ezekiel speaks, there are just automatic chills. He continues Rick’s powerful words by adding his own majestic flair and speaking about the unity between the communities. Hearing Ezekiel call Rick his brother and Maggie his sister just reiterates that these people are family. They live side-by-side and they will die side-by-side. We also get to hear a mighty roar of approval from Shiva.

Season 8 is important for Maggie’s leadership and she continues the epic speech by urging the unified militia to keep their faith in themselves and each other during this war. “That we have to keep our faith in each other. If we can hold onto to that with everything we have, the future is ours…the world is ours.” If that line alone doesn’t make you want to go and fight in this war alongside our people, I don’t know what will.
