Daryl tells Michonne that Negan is on the right side of this argument, for once. But he knows it might not make a difference. Michonne offers to come back, and she asks about Lydia. Michonne says that Lydia must be protected at all costs. They were having a conversation at the border that was going along very peacefully until Carol shot at her, but she didn’t attack them back. Why? Michonne thinks it’s because Alpha told Daryl to take care of Lydia for her. So long as Lydia is safe, Alpha won’t attack. But if something happens to Lydia, then that could all change. Daryl vows to keep her safe, and Michonne tells him to keep this quiet. Michonne asks about RJ and Daryl says he won’t eat his vegetables. Michonne tells Daryl to be her proxy when they vote on Negan, and she knows he will make the right decision.
Michonne sits back as Oceanside sends through an urgent message.
Daryl walks in as Aaron says that he doesn’t think that Negan can be redeemed. He’s broken. Siddiq says that killing him now defeats the whole purpose. The Whisperers are the enemy now, but Aaron thinks that this is a disservice to the people who died as a result of Negan and his people. Siddiq says that they’s taking their eyes off the ball, and Gabriel says the council wasn’t made for this. Daryl says they need to make a decision, and he’s a no because Lydia says he saved her. Theyre tied, and the deciding vote comes to Gabriel. He says he will take the night to think about it and advises them to do the same.
Michonne says she’ll take a group to Oceanside because Rachel thinks that she saw one of the Whisperers watching them. They don’t know for sure but there is a good chance there are more. Eugene agrees, calling them cockroaches. Luke agrees at the reference. Walkers in Alexandria, tree at Hilltop and now something in Oceanside. It’s worth playing it safe. Luke volunteers to go to Oceanside and Yumiko teases that it’s because of Jules. Dianne also offers to go, and Eugene says he’s going to stay at Hilltop. He says he needs to stay and help them to fix the fence. Michonne promises to bring back more supplies. Michonne says that Judith is coming with her, too.
Yumiko goes to see Magna on the top of the stairs and Magna is still upset that they didn’t try to take out more walkers. Yumiko says that they needed to weigh all of the options, but Magna tells her that she isn’t her lawyer anymore and walks away.
Gabriel walks around the community the next day. He goes down to see Negan and finds that the cells is empty. He pounds on Michonne’s door and tells Daryl that Negan is gone.
