In the preview and sneak peek of The Walking Dead 1005, the King has a mysterious cough and Daryl arrives at Hilltop to help with a search party.

The Walking Dead season 10 has so far delivered four amazing episodes that thrust the show into a whole new trajectory. Now, in episode 1005, the stage is set for even more action. The preview and sneak peek of “What It Always Is” hint at a big mystery at Hilltop while Negan plots his next course of action and the King keeps a big secret.

Here’s the synopsis of The Walking Dead 1005, “What It Always Is”:

“Supplies go missing from Hilltop, Negan is idolized by an Alexandrian, and Ezekiel holds a secret.”

“What It Always Is” was written by Eli Jorne and directed by Laura Belsey. Belsey’s name might sound familiar, and for good reason: Belsey directed The Walking Dead 915, “The Calm Before.” That episode featured one of the most heart wrenching and gutting scenes in all of The Walking Dead fandom, and now she’s back for another episode in season 10.

In the preview of “What It Always Is”, Brandon catches up with a smiling Negan, Connie learns that Kelly might be in danger and Alpha warns of a shifting strategy:

Then, in the sneak peek, Daryl and Siddiq arrive at Hilltop and a conversation with the King reveals tension:

Not only is Negan still missing, but Ezekiel has a mysterious cough and his exchange with Daryl about Carol is really awkward.

If the first three episodes of season 10 established what happened between the season 9 finale and where the group is now, then 1004’s “Silence the Whisperers” helped to move the story forward. From the look of the previews, “What It Always Is” serves to move the story along even more, moving us into some potentially uncharted territory. With Negan on the run and Kelly missing, and that strange cough, there is a lot happening in this week’s all-new episode of The Walking Dead!
