The Whisperers have brought a brand new terrifying threat to The Walking Dead. However, perfectly casting these villains has launched them past their comic potential!

As a huge fan of The Walking Dead comics, I am fully aware that some things have to change when going from the source material to screen. When writing a story you have anything you want at your fingertips. In real life, there are many variables, the characters are real people and many things can come into play with how long they can stay in the show.

While I do prefer the comics if speaking honestly, the show does have many changes I have found to be delightful. I prefer Hershel in the tv show, I loved Tyreese having Sasha as a sister, and I love that King Ezekiel was able to push past Shiva’s death and outlive his comic book counterpart.

However, when it comes to the Whisperers I was incredibly nervous, as this is one of my favorite story arcs from the comics. It’s something that if the ending is different or deaths are different it might be okay. When it comes to the characters though, they have to capture the same feelings as the comics or I would feel robbed of an amazing story.

I feel so incredibly lucky that The Walking Dead decided to cast Samantha Morton, Thora Birch, and Ryan Hurst. They portray these villains in a way I think surpasses the comic book counterparts! That is saying a lot considering how horrifying they are in the comics as well. When they all speak you see they understand their characters perfectly.

I would like to put more of a focus on Ryan Hurst for this article even though all of the actors nail their roles. When I listened to Ryan Hurst on Talking Dead about being cast on The Walking Dead, it made my heart happy. Ryan Hurst dreamed about being on The Walking Dead and if that isn’t a sign this was truly meant to be then I don’t know what is.

Ryan is also someone who is on social media quite often and in the way, he speaks about this role he seems truly passionate about Beta. He knows the source material and he is actively trying to go above and beyond and stay true to Beta while also having a little fun along the way as well!

With this being one of my favorite story arcs, I always leaned into it with a small amount of apprehension. It’s something I didn’t want to be changed massively. Now, I have no reservations and I am all on board. This is because of Ryan Hurst himself. He puts all he has into this and isn’t afraid to put his creative input into the story or character as well! Did you know that he helped created Beta’s wardrobe? He was excited to create something that taller people could cosplay! He picked clothing so fans could go all out creating his epic look.

I feel Ryan has put love and care into every aspect of Beta and I truly can’t wait to see what the future holds for this special creation! I think what makes this such a perfect casting for me, is seeing the passion Ryan has that just exudes from him. He doesn’t have to share his feeling on this journey he is taking with Beta or The Walking Dead, you just know in his actions.
