Performances

The fact that Andrew Lincoln has been shut out of best acting categories is a travesty that stings to this day. With Danai Gurira leaving the show in season 10, the 2020 Golden Globes will be one of the last chances for her to receive a best performance nomination. After Gurira turned in a master class in acting with “Scars” in season 9, if she doesn’t get a Golden Globe nomination then we know the system is rigged.

Melissa McBride has also turned in some of her best work of the entire series between 9B and 10A. McBride has taken Carol through the stages of grief in such a heartbreaking way after losing Henry, and her gripping performance deserves recognition. When you think of the transformation Carol has been through since season 1, the fact that more industry folks aren’t buzzing about McBride’s performances through the years is puzzling. It’s something that should be rectified with a nomination in 2020.

New to the cast in season 9 is Samantha Morton. Morton, who has been nominated for her work in other projects, is no stranger to the awards circuit. Her turn as Alpha is not only chilling, but it is so riveting that viewers can’t help but feel entranced by her cold, soulless stare.

Unfortunately, if Gurira, McBride and Morton were all nominated they would likely fall within the same category and would be forced to compete against each other, but that’s not a bad problem to have given the circumstances.
