Diane Kruger to star in Swimming With Sharks drama series
By Renee Hansen
Diana Kruger will star in a drama series called Swimming With Sharks, which is an update of the 1994 movie of the same name. Kruger (Inglourious Basterds) will star alongside Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) in a drama series by Lionsgate called Swimming With Sharks. This is a series based on the 1994 movie of the same name, a dark comedy about Hollywood Studios.
Shipka will play Lou, a young assistant to Kruger’s Joyce, a female studio head. As in the original movie the company they work for is full of abusive and manipulative people but they may be surprised by Lou, who is out to show she is smarter than all of them.
In the original film, the assistant is portrayed by Frank Whaley and the studio head by Kevin Spacey. Labeled as a black comedy it takes a satirical look into the film studio industry with just the right amount of comedy and cut throat ambition. It has gained quite the cult following.
In the new series Kruger and Shipka will be the female counterparts to the original film. It will be great to see the similarities to the original but also a fresh female look to the studio industry.
Kruger posted her excitement about the project on her Instagram.
Kruger has also been busy with projects such as The Operative, where she stars along side Martin Freeman in a suspenseful film where she portrays a rogue spy in Mossad, Israel’s feared national intelligence force. She has post production credit of 355 another spy thriller movie.
She keeps very busy juggling her professional life and taking care of a toddler. Kruger has a young daughter with long time boyfriend Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead). The couple is very private about their child, understandably, but recently Reedus shared an adorable photo of Kruger and their daughter walking down the sidewalk and captioned it MY GIRLS.
The Swimming with Sharks series will air on Quibi, a short form mobile video platform that is set to launch April 2020. Quibi hasn’t set a release date for Swimming With Sharks. The platform will have two different subscriptions $5 a month with ads and $8 without the ads.
There is no release date for Swimming with Sharks yet, but you can catch Kruger’s main man Norman Reedus when The Walking Dead returns on February 23.
