The Walking Dead mid-season premiere featured several jaw dropping moments, including one between Negan and Alpha that also included dropping trousers.

If “the reward for work well done is the opportunity to do more” then The Walking Dead fans can likely expect Negan to start doing a whole lot more work in the second half of season 10. The former leader of the Saviors saw his tip to Alpha rewarded in a way that he can understand, but how will this play out in the future?

Comic books aside, no one saw Negan and Alpha hooking up in the mid-season premiere. After Negan tipped Alpha off about the possibility of Gamma being the spy, Alpha saw fit to give him his just rewards in the way of a sexual encounter.

Oddly enough, Negan didn’t see it coming. (Pun intended) He thought she was leading him into the middle of the woods to skin him alive, and even after announcing her intention to give a “crass man” his “crass reward” he still wondered if she was going to go all praying mantis on him and kill him after the grand finale. (Something she never answered, by the way)

Fear not, Negan stans: This was very much not the start of a relationship. In fact, it more closely resembled the time when Negan offered his wives to Eugene during Eugene’s stay at the Sanctuary. This was a reward, a “crass reward” for a “crass man”. This was Alpha reading the room and seeing that Negan served her well, erasing – at least, for now – any doubt of his intentions.

The timing was quite interesting and worth noting, too. Alpha sent Beta away to find Gamma, leaving her alone long enough to reward Negan without being seen by her second in command. Negan knows loyalty when he sees it, and he even expressed how much Beta respects Alpha when ruling him out as the spy. That she chose the moment Beta was gone to have sex with Negan makes us wonder if she was concerned about Beta’s reaction had he known about it.

Given Alpha’s sway over the big guy, if Beta was upset he would probably never admit it. We have no idea whether or not they have ever been intimate, and in fact it seems highly improbable that they have been intimate given that Beta’s attention seems to be focused on the herd and the Whisperer cult of the dead than physical delights. Then again, maybe they got it on in the early days of the apocalypse when they were building their movement.

In the end, there is little doubt that this was a one-time event between Negan and Alpha. There need not be any naming of ships in this case because the ship has sailed at this point. In fact, there has never been a time when the expression “it’s just sex” has been so apt.

What did you think of the intimate moment between Alpha and Negan? Do you think it was a one-time event or will there be more? Let us know in the comments!
