Is a Daryl and Negan dynamic coming to The Walking Dead?

The Walking Dead could be setting up a dynamic between the characters of both Daryl and Negan after the most recent episode.

In The Walking Dead episode  “Look at the Flowers” we see Daryl and Negan work together against the whisperers, and it worked very well. Something about sworn enemies teaming up just have so much creativity to it, it can have eyes glued to the screen. Could this be the start of something huge to come together in the future of The Walking Dead?

In a recent interview with Angela Kang on Entertainment Weekly, Kang was asked about Daryl and Negan’s relationship.

She didn’t shut down the idea of what possible team-up we can see, but rather put it into perspective how much of a gap is between the characters:

"“I think there’s a little bit of a thaw, but I don’t think he really loves this guy yet. I don’t know that he totally trusts him. He was very aware that Negan was having maybe a bit too much fun once he got the gun back from the Whisperers, and Negan is complicated, and Negan killed people that mattered a lot to Daryl. For Daryl, the loss of Glenn and Abraham was huge for him, and all these people that died in that war, and I don’t think that that’s something that’s easily left behind.For viewers who’ll remember back to season 9, he was the one that was really all in with Maggie on executing this plan of maybe taking him out. And so, for Daryl, all of it is a complicated relationship, but Daryl’s a pretty pragmatic guy and he sees this guy — he did do some stuff that was good, and so I don’t think that that’s lost on Daryl. But at the same time, is he ready to call this guy his best friend? I don’t think so.”"

With all of this in mind, there is still a raw and angry nerve that digs at Daryl because of Negan. He lost longtime friends he was locked up and humiliated by Negan and his people, which affected him immensely.

But why wouldn’t Daryl kill Negan at this point? Perhaps he has a new respect for Negan after Lydia told Daryl he saved her life after being jumped. In all these years of being captive after what he’s done, it seems Negan has new attitude toward the Alexandrians, and maybe Daryl has noticed that Rick’s way changed Negan for the better.

After Negan and Daryl were confronted by Whisperers, they both read each other very fast and hatched out a quick plan to take them down. The way they both teased each other and bit the other one’s tail while still working together brought a very fun tone to the scenes. One could say they are the Hobbs and Shaw of TWD Universe. With these two working together how could Beta possibly stand a chance of a showdown between the three if they ever ran into each other?
