Rosemary Rodriguez shares behind the scenes photos, stories from The Walking Dead 707
There is nothing like some behind the scenes goodness from the set of The Walking Dead, and who doesn’t love a little nostalgia? Thanks to director Rosemary Rodriguez, the TWD Family is getting both as she shares some behind the scenes photos and stories from her time bringing the season 7 episode “Sing Me a Song” to life.
During her interview with Undead Walking, Rodriguez shared how excited she was to be asked to direct an episode of The Walking Dead, a show she adored long before she directed it.
Upon arriving in Georgia, there was a parking spot set aside for the director.
Inside the production office she ran into Greg Nicotero, who welcomed him to the set. One of the first things he said was that he was there to help her shine. That was when she knew this would be “an amazing experience.”
They showed her to her office, and on the desk were issues of the comic books whose iconic stories corresponded with the episode.
Filming was a blast because Rodriguez was reunited with her pal Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who had been the one to text her about directing the show in the first place. As Negan, Morgan was intimidating, but in real life he’s a total sweetheart.
Rodriguez expressed sympathy for Morgan, who was stuck in Negan’s iconic leather jacket in the middle of the intense Georgia heat. Filming indoors was much nicer, but even the walkers had to find a way to keep cool between shots.
One of the biggest walker moments in the episode came from the Tree Walker. Spencer risked his life bringing the Tree Walker to the ground and was rewarded with the geocache coordinates to a ton of food and supplies. Filming Tree Walker was a challenge since he was in a tree and the body had to fall to the ground in just the right way.
Rodriguez shared a photo of Tree Walker and the actor inside the body suit, and you can just imagine how warm it was in that suit!
It’s always fun to take a little trip down memory lane, and we’re grateful to Rosemary Rodriguez for taking the time to share some memories with us, and we look forward to having her back to talk about the other episodes of The Walking Dead that she worked on over the years.
