The Walking Dead: New Negan one-shot comic coming in July
Negan returns to The Walking Dead in one-shot issue Negan Lives #1
In an effort to aid flailing comic book shops, Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard are releasing a Negan comic book set after the events of The Walking Dead #174, Negan’s last appearance in the comics. Negan Lives #1, the special one-shot issue is an effort to help struggling shops, with 100% of the revenue from the book going back to the shops selling the issue.
When The Walking Dead comic came to an end after a storied run, fans wondered what happened to certain characters in the TWD Universe. Though Kirkman and Adlard were satisfied with the comic book’s ending, they recognized that there might be some story left to tell, and that story could do some good. “While Charlie Adlard and I had laid the series to rest, this felt like something special we could do for the store owners who made our series a success to begin with,” Kirkman said.
Comic shops have been struggling to reopen after the effects of novel coronavirus put their future in jeopardy. Comic shops rely on new product being shipped in weekly, but major comic book distributors shut down during the pandemic, making even curbside pickup impossible because there was no product available. Even as they reopen, the industry is slow to return to pre-COVID 19 status and so Negan Lives #1 is a way to help.

Negan Lives #1 will only be available in comic shops, forcing consumers to purchase a physical copy to help retailers. For Kirkman, this is a win-win, giving The Walking Dead fans a new story and helping comic shops at the same time. “I’m happy to report that 100% of the revenue generated from this book will go to the stores selling it. The retailer community does backbreaking work to get comics into the hands of our loving fans, we should all be doing more in these trying times to show them how appreciated they are.”
Negan Lives #1, a 36-page black and white issue, will arrive in stores on July 1. To ensure you get a copy, it is advised that you notify your comic shop so that enough copies are ordered. Special variant covers will also be available in limited quantities.
