1. Clementine from the video game

Clementine from The Walking Dead video game is possibly the most loved character in The Walking Dead universe. Fans got to see her grow from a scared young girl into an incredible survivor. Clementine is the hero the world needs right now, an independent black LGBTQIA+ woman who will fight for her not only her future but all her loved one’s futures.

Ever since Robert Kirkman dropped “P.S. Clementine Lives” in Negan Lives fans have been talking about it non-stop. This could mean Clementine’s journey is not over after all. Fans know that the events that take place in the comics and video game are close so it’s never been out of the realm of possibility that Clementine could crossover.

When all of the talking started, I thought of the many ways a Clementine one-shot would work, and to be truthful there are many. Clementine’s story has several time hops allowing for many possibilities for continuation. Then, I got a picture in my head and I have not been able to shake it since I thought of it….

Clementine standing in front of the Rick Grimes statue

I can’t possibly think of anything more iconic or mind-bending than Clementine standing in front of Rick Grimes’ statue, hearing his story and commenting on what a wonderful man he must have been, potentially comparing him and Lee. The thought that at some point Clementine could talk to Carl and they could share stories about Glenn, Hershel, Jesus and whisperers gives me goosebumps.

Some huge characters did not make this list, Carl, Michonne, Andrea, Lee, Elodie, Maggie among others. Honestly, I just believe that whether or not they were happy endings they felt real and I have come to terms with how their stories ended more than the characters listed here.

I know the future of The Walking Dead is looking rather bleak because of the current state of the world, and the pandemic that is still hindering many things. However, it’s important to remember that these stories are within our hearts and it’s our job as fans to help put positivity out into the world and encourage others. This break will be over before we know it. In the meantime, celebrate what the fandom has already given you!
