5) Is it really a “finale”?

Here comes the news that caught everyone off guard: episode 1016 will not actually be the last episode in season 10. While it will still technically be classified as the season finale, Angela Kang announced that six new episodes will be released in early 2021 as part of an “extended season 10.”

This leads to so many questions. How will episode 1016 set up these new episodes? Will the episodes be one-shot stories using footage that they already have? Or will they feature new footage shot over the next few months?

There’s no telling the answer to any of these questions until October 4 at the very least. The season 10 finale will likely give us some idea of the direction of these six episodes in terms of the story arc. No matter what the team has in store for these six episodes, this reveal makes the season 10 finale all the more important.
