By Cody Schultz
The Walking Dead will come to an end with a super-sized final season in 2022. See how TWD fans are reacting to the news of the show’s end.
All good things must come to an end and that included AMC’s flagship series The Walking Dead. Ahead of the show’s return this October, AMC has renewed its long-running series for an eleventh and final season set to air in 2022.
Although it’s always difficult to wrap one’s head around the end of a beloved series such as TWD, the good news there is still a lot of gas left in the tank before the series rides off into the sunset one final time. As confirmed by AMC, season 11 will consist of 24 episodes making it the show’s biggest season yet plus we’re set to get six bonus episodes of season 10 meaning there are still plenty of episodes left before the show’s final curtain call.
And while the flagship series will come to a close, the future looks bright for the iconic franchise. In announcing the final season renewal, AMC also confirmed plans for two new series set within the universe of The Walking Dead: a new anthology series from Scott M. Gimple and a Carol and Daryl-centric spinoff from Angela Kang. That’s in addition to the Andrew Lincoln led Rick Grimes movies in the works and Fear the Walking Dead, whose future has not yet been confirmed.
