Don’t wait to buy a trade version of The Walking Dead Deluxe comic books

October is a big month for The Walking Dead fans with lots of new content coming from a variety of platforms, but one of the most anticipated arrivals is The Walking Dead Deluxe comics from Image Comics and Skybound. This reissue of the original TWD comic book run will be different in a lot of ways, and there’s a big reason you won’t want to wait to pick them up.

Under normal circumstances, comic books are released as single issues first. After about six issues are available they’re collected into a trade edition and sold as one volume. The Walking Dead comics have been around long enough to have spawned countless volumes and compendiums of story arcs over the years, but don’t expect that to happen with the new Deluxe editions.

According to press releases from Image Comics, the new Deluxe editions will not be collected as trades anytime soon. That means they will only be available as single issues, available as hard copies or online through retailers like Comixology, so if you want to read them you need to get them from the start.

If you’re into physical copies, now is a good time to notify your local comic shop that you’d like them, because that way you can be added to a pull list to guarantee that you receive them. Not only does it help them to place their orders, but it also ensures that you get a copy before anyone else, especially when stock is low.

The Walking Dead Deluxe edition comics will be valuable for a few reasons. Not only are they full color, but they also feature outtakes from the cutting room floor that never made it into the first run of the series. There are collectible covers from Charlie Adlard and many other artists, too, including a blank sketch cover for use with commissions.

Since there are no plans to collect the individual titles into trade copies any time soon, it’s important to make plans to get your copies now so you don’t miss out. The first issue arrives in comic shops on October 7.
