Norman Reedus launches bigbaldhead production company; working with AMC

It’s been a big week for Norman Reedus. Fresh off last week’s bombshell news that The Walking Dead will be concluding next season and will be followed by a Reedus and Melissa McBride-led spinoff series, Norman Reedus has now announced the launch of bigbaldhead productions and a first-look deal with AMC, as reported by Deadline.

The deal with AMC, reminiscent of one signed by former Walking Dead star Steven Yeun with Amazon Studios, will have Reedus’ company producing television content that will appear first on AMC. Additionally, bigbaldhead will be developing a publishing branch to create books in partnership with Blackstone Publishing.

It isn’t shocking to see Reedus ink a deal with AMC given his long history with the company, both as lead star Daryl Dixon on The Walking Dead and as host of his own show, Ride With Norman Reedus, on the network. After the announcement of the deal, Co-President of AMC Studios Dan McDermott said, “Norman has been an indelible part of the AMC family for more than a decade, across both scripted and unscripted series, on foot and on wheels, and we’re thrilled to expand our relationship with such an incredible talent.” It’s clear that AMC trusts Reedus to be one of the faces of their content, and with good reason.

In terms of what we may be seeing from bigbaldhead production studio in the future, the studio is already moving forward with an adaptation of the Western comic book series Undone By Blood, in which Reedus will both executive produce and star in one of the leading roles. On the book side, the partnership with Blackstone Publishing will begin with the release of the book series Unknown Man.

Reedus was quoted in the Deadline article as saying the following about his excitement of creating stories with his new production and publishing company:

"It has been a dream of mine for so long to be able to share and tell progressive stories that shine a light where others don’t. I feel incredibly privileged for the opportunity to amplify innovative voices in storytelling that are visionary in fostering change in culture. I couldn’t be happier to launch this company alongside AMC and Blackstone Publishing."

It is both exciting and heartwarming to see Reedus place a huge emphasis on sharing diverse and progressive stories that haven’t really found their way into either the television or book mediums. Now more than ever, it is important to tell stories from the perspectives of those we don’t know about or hear as much from in popular media, and it seems like Reedus is aiming to partner with people and companies that will allow that to happen.
